Hairy Results in Second Successful Animation Contest
ONLINE Mar. 3, 2008 - Super U is proud to announce "Blind Date” by David Wesch has won $2,500 in the second SuperU.ca and TAC.tv Animation contest. The animated short, chosen by an expert panel of judges, will also have the chance to be broadcast on Super Channel.
“The best part about making this film was finding a world of people who shared the same passions as I did [in animation school]. I met so many cool and talented people many of whom became lasting friends, and one in particular who became my girlfriend,” said David Wesch about the production of “Blind Date”.
The jury, comprised of animation professionals Alexis Cadieux (Salambo Productions, TAC.tv) and Bryce Hallett (Frog Feet Productions), was impressed with the strong, clear staging of the winning film. “It had a fun premise and everything was well thought out with the gags and antics of the hero culminating in a satisfying ending. Great creativity. Great animation. Great short.”
David plans to use his prize money to pay down his school debt and treat those who helped him along the way. “I'd like to do something nice for the people without whose help this film would never have been possible; my family and my girlfriend. Oh... and I'm gonna pimp my bicycle.”
This win marks the second of four animation contests presented by SuperU.ca and online animation heavy-hitter TAC.tv. The best animated short in each contest will win $2,500, be featured on TAC.tv and have a chance for broadcast on Super Channel. An elite jury, including TAC.tv’s own Michel Beaudet, will award a prize that could add another $5,000 for the best of the best at the end of August 2009. The next contest opens to entrants on March 18, 2009.
