ONLINE OCT. 7, 2008 - Super U is proud to announce "The Stakeout" by Victor Couwenbergh of Departure Productions has won $1,000 in its "Homage To - Film Noir" contest. The short, chosen by Super U members, will also have the chance to be broadcast on Super Channel.
The short film “The Stakeout” revolves around protagonist Private Eye Cuff 'Em Valentine as he waits for his latest target to arrive at a nightclub. Couwenbergh, an Ottawa-based writer and director, admittedly stumbled on the creation of Valentine, stating he “appeared as a supporting character in my first feature length B-movie comedy “Maggot Man.” I was so happy with how he turned out, I decided to see if he could stand alone as a protagonist.”
When asked what he was going to do with his winnings, Couwenbergh said the prize money will be distributed among those who helped him to make the film possible. “Profit was not my motive in creating it. If there's anything left over, I will give it to the FealGood Foundation, which is an organization in New York City that helps 9/11 first responders who are suffering from the effects of the toxic dust from the World Trade Center collapses.”
Super U is the online venue to watch the latest Canadian short films. Viewers enjoy high quality content, qualified by the viewers themselves.
